By means of exceptional imagery, Ron chronicles the lives of six foxes from the time they leave their birthing den until reaching sexual maturity. For eight months, he followed and photographed these young foxes as they grew up on Griffin Mountain, striving to catch those magical moments that reveal the very essence of the animal—the Spirit of the Fox.  Click the Image below to view the photo book.

Through the art of photography, Ron seeks to unveil the character and temperament of a wild animal in its natural surroundings, and he  achieves this objective by knowing and understanding the species.

We have photographer Roger Bennett to thank for yet another gorgeous photo book, this one a large format 12″ x 12″ sewn signature hard cover book.

“Searching for Perfection” presents 76 stunning black & white images, taken over 35 years of searching for the perfect image.

Roger says he took most of the images in this book with a 4X5 view camera, which provides the negative quality he believes is essential for creating high quality landscape photographs.   He then scanned the negatives at high resolution, and processed them in Photoshop to make the best possible image for the final print.  He designed the book himself, using our PhotoBook Press Design Tool layout software (available free here).

The photography is supreme, and the finished book is worthy of the photography.

Just as breathtaking as Bennett’s masterful images are the sentiments behind them:

I try to perfect the composition of my image  from the scene in front of my lens. The exhilaration I feel when I take a picture is what I try to capture in my photographs. If others can share my sense of excitement when they see the images in this book, then I have succeeded.

The images on the first several pages of the book, as we’re sure you noticed, were NOT your usual engagement shots. The B&G are very athletic and the MOB had photographer Elizabeth Chapman shoot the surprise proposal during a bicycle race! We just love unusual proposals and love even more that this one was captured for the guest book.

This guest book is 72 pages, which is pretty long for a guest book, but we think the length and “no-lines” format works as they had 300 guests at their wedding; lots of room to squeeze in lots of good wishes! That’s a big celebration and kudos to Anica’s mom for giving them this thoughtful and very, very high quality gift (it is Photobook Press, after all!) that will last for generations.

Near the end of 2011, PhotoBook Press had the absolute pleasure of working with Mark Frolick and his beloved “Cheetahs”.

“I have always loved cheetahs!  They are one of the most magnificent animals in the world.  They are sleek, beautiful, and lightning fast.  Watching them run is like viewing a beautiful work of art.  Only this work of art can travel 100 meters in just over six seconds.

A labor of love for all involved, this book is the result of a collaboration between Thomas Cekay and Stanford Chen.  A historical mixture of stories and photos, the book chronicles dwindling salmon runs on the lower Columbia River and how the diminishing resource affected gillnetters whose livelihood depended on the iconic fish.

The process of building this book included the printing of proof copies, as sometimes it’s appropriate to refine the color and print quality prior to production.  After approval, both hard and soft cover editions were produced.
